Modeling of Accidental Oil Spills at Different Phases of LNG Terminal Construction

چکیده
Accidental oil spills not only deteriorate biodiversity but also cause immediate threats to coastal environments. This study quantitatively investigates the initial dispersion of spilled using environmental fluid dynamics code (EFDC) model, loosely coupled with an endorsed spill model (MEDSLIK-II) accounting for time-dependent advection, diffusion, and physiochemical weathering surface slick. Focusing on local contributing factors (i.e., construction activities) dispersion, current is applied likely occurring at three different phases Songdo LNG terminal a reclaimed site in South Korea. Applied pose detailed ship collision scenarios generated based proposed plan terminal. The effects permeable revetments, required reclamation, currents were investigated subsequent modeling. For each scenario, simulated results showed distinct patterns transformation Oil absorption into coast, which causes immense damage communities, found be highly dependent tidal currents, volume spilled, nearby activities.

متن کاملThe Legacy of Oil Spills
On April 20, 2010, an explosion occurred on a British Petroleum (BP) Deep Water Horizon platform, and 2 days later, the platform collapsed. Eleven workers were killed, and oil has been gushing out ever since. Although the initial reports were that about 50,000 gal were being released per day, every few weeks, the estimates released to the American public increased, until in early June, the comp...
متن کاملContainment & Recovery of Oil Spills at Sea . Methods and Limitations .
The ultimate aim of any oil recovery operation at sea is to collect as much floating oil as is reasonably and economically possible. However, a review of past spills shows that rarely is more than 10% of spilled oil recovered from the sea surface. Although many methods of mechanical containment and recovery exist, each has its own limitations which affect the overall success of a recovery opera...
متن کاملCombating eutrophication in coastal areas at risk for oil spills
In this study we evaluate the profitability of nutrient abatement measures in eutrophied coastal areas exposed to a risk of frequent oil spills. The case studied is the Gulf of Finland, which forms part of the Baltic Sea. We present a dynamic model that integrates land loads of nitrogen and phosphorus, cost of nutrient abatement measures in agriculture, nutrient dynamics in the sea basins adjoi...
